Tales of an Army Ant

For months now Kanin has been talking to me about his 1st Grade Spring musical, Bugs.  Kanin was an Army ant and got to dress in camoflogue and be all military.  He was so excited.

Fast forward to this morning and the weatherman was calling for a horrible storm.  So bad, in fact, that the Storm Chasers from the Discovery Channel were all over the St. Louis area, as well as, the Weather Channel.  They were predicting a horrible, horrible storm so I had to warn Kanin that we may not be able to go to the program and that they might even cancel it.  He was devastated.

The day passed along and the weather was fine.  By about 3:00, though, the temperature had risen to at least 85 or 90 and the air was thick.  The rain started, the hail came, and the tears started to flow.  Kanin was so upset.  I finally told him that we would wait until about 15 minute before the program was to start to make our decision.  I really didn't think it was the best thing but I knew how important it was to him.  6:45 creeped up and it was only raining at the time so we decided to brave it.

As soon as we headed out to the car, the skies opened up on us and we were soaked.  My mom and dad were following us so we were trying to stick together, get there on time, get 3 kids out of the car, protect the camera from getting wet, stay together, and get Kanin to the room with all of the other kids.  Talk about a headache!

We got inside and the lower part of the auditorium was filled so we had to head up to the balcony.  Luckily, we found seats altogether but we didn't get a program (annoyed!!!  I don't understand why they didn't at least print one program per seat but . . .)

Anyway, the program started and I got a little emotional.  It was probably a combination of being so far away and knowing that I wasn't going to get great pics, knowing that Kanin didn't know where we were, and just seeing my baby up there.  He was so cute!

Kanin is the first Army guy next to the ladybug.  Next to top row.

And, now, if you really need to smile.  Watch this video.  It is so sweet and cute!  Watching Kanin in this video made the hassle all worth it.
